“Diary of a Wimpy Kid” is an alternative diary with comics and graffiti plus text explanations.

The protagonist Gray is a kid who just entered junior high school. He is kind-hearted, barely honest, has a little cleverness, and loves to play by nature. Because of his lack of appearance, he has to practice internal skills hard, hoping to attract everyone’s attention through his brain full of ghost ideas.

 

The whole book vividly depicts an image of an adolescent boy who is “sometimes innocent, sometimes rebellious, sometimes naughty, and sometimes helpless” with a life-like tone and style of writing, gimmicks and funny illustrations.

The book gives a close-up and true description of the learning and living environment of American middle school students through Gray’s tone. There is a sense of decryption invisibly, which makes the children discover that the teenagers who are thousands of miles away and on the other side of the ocean are also full of joy. Annoyed, impulsive, and kind-hearted little kid, he has the feeling of “same blue sky, same book”.
